What we hold about you, why, and how to get rid of it.

1.What we hold

Your name, the name you want on your certificate, your email address, your language settings, what you have watched, your quiz attempts, your task submissions, and the address of the practice site you build during the course.

For payments we hold the order, the amount, the method and — for a bank transfer — the receipt you upload, because a person has to look at it. We never see or store your card number; that stays with the payment processor.

2.Why

To give you the course you bought, to mark your work, to issue your certificate, and to send you the three emails that are part of the purchase: confirm your address, reset your password, here is your receipt.

We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers.

3.Your practice site

You give us the address of a site you build. About once a week we make a single request to it to check it is still reachable, so that we can tell you before a grader finds out the hard way. We record whether it responded and when. We do not crawl it and we do not store its content.

4.Where it lives

On servers in Germany, with backups in object storage. Video is served by our video provider; email is sent by our email provider. They process data on our instructions and do not use it for anything else.

5.How long

For as long as you have access, which is the point of lifetime access. Records we have to keep for accounting are kept for as long as the law in the issuing entity's country requires.

Certificates are the exception: a certificate and its public verification page outlive an account deletion, because a credential nobody can check is not a credential. It carries the name you chose and nothing else.

6.Getting a copy, or getting rid of it

Write to us and we will send you everything we hold about you, or delete it. Deletion ends course access and cannot be undone.

You can export your own notes as a single file from inside the course at any time without asking us.
